Pitch your film idea and be in to win $10,000


Do you have a great idea for a film or need funding to get your film made, or do you have a story you absolutely have to tell? If so, PITCH-SLAP is for you.

PITCH-SLAP was created to support experienced and emerging film makers to bring their ideas to the big screen. With the help of New Zealand Film Commission and Te Māngai Pāho we are offering film makers aged 18 years or older the opportunity to pitch their film idea to industry executives and be in to win up to $10,000 prize money.

The PITCH-SLAP competition will take place at 3.00pm, Saturday 11th September at a venue TBC.

Conditions apply so please read the rules below.


  1. All entrants must complete the PITCH-SLAP registration at the link below.

  2. PITCH-SLAP is open to all film makers, experienced and emerging aged 18 years old and over.

  3. You will need to have a credit of at least one film project or TV drama series.

  4. Your pitch must be fully formed, prepared and ready to film (or edit)

  5. You will need to send us your treatment and formed idea one week before the festival so that the judges can have time to go through your proposal and assess the project

  6. You must attend the “How to Pitch Workshop” on Thursday 9 September

  7. You must be available to pitch your film to the judges on Saturday 11th September at 3pm.

  8.  Your pitch will be no longer than 5 minutes and allow 3 minutes for questions.

  9. All videos, media, PowerPoint presentations for your pitch must be submitted to info@riffnz.com by 10AM on Thursday September 9, 2021 and must meet all tech specs at the festival

  10. Judges decisions are final. 



  1. The Judges may select one or more winners and allocate the prize money to each of the winners as they deem fit.

  2. The Pitch-Slap winner or winners will be announced at the Festival Closing Gala Night.
